Network Engineer

Overview

The objectives of this role is to provide the ongoing support in maintaining and expanding the company’s highly redundant global VoIP telecommunications network.

The Network Engineers provide ongoing day to day support for all voice network and vendor related issues, whilst ensuring they remain in compliance with company’s policies and procedures.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing & configuring a variety of systems and network devices (including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and VoIP SBCs), whilst developing and improving upon their hardware onboarding procedures
  • Responsible for Pure IP’s Network monitoring, including ensuring all network devices and services are fully monitored & responding to any alerts raised by the monitoring systems
  • Together with the Network Operations Manager, Responsible for the overall network capacity
  • Take ownership of the Voice Network and any upgrades/improvements to hardware and software, as required
  • Support Line Manager in security vulnerability assessments including planned testing and deployment of patches
  • Periodic hardware and media recycling of the NetOps equipment in their region
  • Support periodic access permissions review of the Network Operations resources
  • Write up and implement network change requests
  • Strictly follow ‘work in the Data Centre’ guidelines provided when attending one of the main Data Centre colocations
  • Work with VoIP carriers to support their onboarding, whilst configuring and testing new connections
  • Working with a variety of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols and technologies
  • Identify and document networking procedures to add to the internal knowledge base
  • Administrative responsibilities such as network documentation, equipment and configuration audits
  • Availability outside of standard business times to perform maintenance works and respond to issues as they may arise.
