The Top Trends Affecting Today’s Modern Meeting

5, January 2016

As we begin 2016, we’ve taken a look back at the Blue Jeans Network 2015 State of the Modern Meeting Report, which identified the biggest trends affecting today’s meetings based upon the analysis of over five million of Blue Jeans Network’s business collaboration meetings in 177 countries.

This year’s report reveals how an increasingly mobile workforce is changing today’s modern meeting. The rise of remote working and global expansion means companies are turning to conferencing to unify their global teams under one communications network, enabling them to open new offices quickly and easily, and to maintain business communications no matter where staff are located.

With an increasingly global and mobile workforce, the demand for engaging, visual collaboration has never been stronger. Face-to-face meetings are on the rise coast to coast and around the world as people can connect visually, no matter where they are, or what devices they use.

The Rise of Mobile

This year’s State of the Modern Meeting Report found that 25% of meetings have at least one mobile participant, showing a clear trend towards online meetings. In addition, mid-afternoon was revealed to be the most popular time of day for meetings, a trend most likely caused by global teams accommodating for time differences.

For the Love of Conferencing

Alongside the rise in mobility is the growing use of conference room systems. BJN found that 35% of meetings include at least one conference room system. In order to accommodate for remote workers and global teams, companies are implementing conferencing solutions. With a conferencing solution in place, meetings can take place with all staff members present no matter where they are located in the world.

Serious Cost Savings

Driving this trend towards mobile working and the need for global communications networks, is the significant time and cost savings that it can offer. Initially, by expanding across the globe, companies were having to foot the bill for large travel expenses. However, thanks to the rise of mobile meetings, BJN found that 7.5 billion travel miles were avoided and $3.3 billion in travel costs were saved.

The business world has changed dramatically following the advent of technologies such as VoIP systems. In addition to this, there has been a significant increase in demand and supply which has impacted businesses across the world. All in all, this has led organizations to undertake global expansion, with many setting up headquarters in the US or UK and then opening additional offices in cities all over the world.

With more and more people working remotely and businesses expanding across the world, teams are becoming increasingly global, and as the results of BJN’s report show, this altered business landscape has had a huge impact on the format of today’s meetings.
